Introduction
The State of Nebraska has been awarded a supplemental appropriation of approximately $5.5 million dollars for long-term recovery efforts for damage caused by the severe storms, tornadoes, and flooding related to the federal disaster declaration made by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) (FEMA-1770-DR) on June 20, 2008.
The Department of Economic Development/Community and Rural Development Division (NEDED/CRD) is the lead state agency in distributing funds for public infrastructure restoration, economic revitalization, and other non-housing disaster recovery activities. NEDED/CRD will serve as the state's primary liaison to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) the source of federal funds for long-term disaster recovery in areas affected by natural disasters in 2008.
NEDED/CRD will oversee the use of disaster recovery funds to ensure compliance with HUD rules, lead the development of a disaster recovery action plan, and report to HUD on all disaster recovery issues impacting affected regions. Please note that only local units of government may apply. CDBG Disaster Recovery is not a program for individuals.
