NOV. 23, 2009 (LINCOLN, NE)—The Nebraska Department of Economic Development (DED) will sign an interagency agreement with and award $221,375 to the Nebraska Department of Natural Resources (NDNR) to produce floodplain maps for Adams, Hamilton, Jefferson, Seward and York counties. NDNR will also update an existing hydraulic model for the Big Blue River, developed by NDNR in 2002, to provide detailed floodplain information. DED administers the 2008 Community Development Block Grant Disaster Recovery fund from which the monies are awarded.

Eligible Disaster Recovery Planning activities include flood studies, mapping, zoning/building code ordinance revisions, floodplain ordinances, drainage basin studies, infrastructure studies, and building requirements.
Disaster Recovery funding is still available for Public Infrastructure category projects. Eligible projects include debris removal, road/bridge repair, water control facility repair, repair or replacement of public buildings, utility repair, and reimbursement of the 12.5% local match contributed to FEMA grants.
