Capitol ceremony to kick off CD Week, Monday, April 17LINCOLN, NEB. (April 13, 2006)—Monday, April 17, marks the start of Community Development (CD) Week recognition events throughout the state. For example, the community of Laurel will issue its own proclamation; the city of Omaha will host a Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) recognition event on Thursday, April 20, 6-7:30 p.m., at the University of Nebraska at Omaha W.H. Thompson Alumni Center; and the city of Lincoln has posted a special CD Week web page: http://www.lincoln.ne.gov/city/urban/cdWKindx.htm At the state level, the Nebraska Department of Economic Development (DED) is helping coordinate: • A Governor’s proclamation signing and award presentation ceremony in the State Capitol, Governor’s Hearing Room, April 17, 10:30 a.m. Governor Dave Heineman will officially proclaim April 17-23 as Community Development Week in Nebraska, designate the 2006 Showcase Community, and present awards on behalf of DED, as well as the cities of Lincoln and Omaha. • A 2006 CD Week/CDBG program website, http://crd.neded.org/ncip/cdweek.htm, that will feature CDBG “success stories” about projects statewide, news releases informing the public about events sponsored by DED and other communities and organizations throughout Nebraska, and support for organizations celebrating the week.
