Tourism Development grant apps. accepted May 8-22

LINCOLN, NEB. (April 19, 2006)—A program that has helped promote the physical development of tourism attractions in Nebraska will be accepting grant applications, May 8-22. The Tourism Development Initiative (TDI) awards grants from $20,000 to $200,000 for the physical development of attractions that annually draw 2,500 or more visits originating from at least 100 miles away. Eligible projects include historic restorations, museums, recreational facilities, and convention centers. Ineligible projects are defined as tourism support facilities other than attractions, including eating and drinking establishments, commercial sleeping accommodations, and gift shops.

TDI grants are financed through the federal Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program, administered by the Nebraska Department of Economic Development, and awarded to Nebraska communities and/or entities outside Lincoln and Omaha (which receive separate CDBG funding).
