What is Community Development Week?

The National Community Development Association initiated National Community Development Week in 1986 to remind Congress of the importance of the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program.

In celebration of National Community Development Week (March 24-30, 2008), nominations are being accepted for the SHOWCASE COMMUNITY. This designation recognizes communities that have demonstrated exceptional capacity during the past five to 10 years to:

(1) identify community development goals and strategies;

(2) combine local, state, and federal resources to achieve those goals, and

(3) accomplish major projects with positive impacts on the community.

Award winners will be announced at a special event held at the State Capitol during CD Week!

The Nebraska Community Development Week is sponsored by the Nebraska Rural Development Commission, the Nebraska Department of Economic Development, US Department of Agriculture – Rural Development, US Department of Housing and Urban Development, NCIP, the City of Omaha, the City of Lincoln and other community development organizations.

How can my community participate in CD Week?
Submit the 2008 Showcase Community Nomination Form (.pdf) (.doc) by Feb 20, 2008. Governor Heineman will announce the designated 2008 Showcase Community at a ceremony celebrating CD Week. The ceremony will be held at the State Capitol during CD Week.

  • Bassett—Designated in 2007
  • Laurel—Designated in 2006
  • Ord—Designated in 2005

  • Lexington—Designated in 2004
  • South Sioux City—Designated in 2003
