The National Community Development Association initiated National Community Development Week in 1986 to remind Congress of the importance of the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program.
In celebration of National Community Development Week (April 4-10, 2010), nominations are being accepted for the SHOWCASE COMMUNITY. This designation recognizes communities that have demonstrated exceptional capacity during the past five to 10 years to:
(1) identify community development goals and strategies;
(2) combine local, state, and federal resources to achieve those goals, and
(3) accomplish major projects with positive impacts on the community.
Award winners will be announced at a special event held at the State Capitol during CD Week!
The Nebraska Community Development Week is sponsored by the Nebraska Rural Development Commission, the Nebraska Department of Economic Development, US Department of Agriculture – Rural Development, US Department of Housing and Urban Development, NCIP, the City of Omaha, the City of Lincoln and other community development organizations.
Submit the 2010 Showcase Community Nomination Form (. pdf) (. doc) by March 15, 2010. Governor Heineman will announce the designated 2010 Showcase Community at a ceremony celebrating CD Week. The ceremony will be held at the State Capitol during CD Week.
