Overview

The Nebraska Affordable Housing Program (NAHP) provides grants to non-profits, local governments, and public housing authorities to:

  1. build new rental units for persons that are low to moderate income,
  2. adapt a building from another use such as an old school or hotel to rental housing,
  3. rehabilitate an existing rental property owned by a non-profit or public housing authority to meet local building codes and DED rehabilitation standards,
  4. administer a homebuyer assistance program,
  5. develop new single family housing for homeownership, including infrastructure,
  6. purchase homes, rehabilitate to meet local building codes and DED rehabilitation standards and provide downpayment assistance to a new homebuyer to purchase the homes, and
  7. administer a program to assist homeowners in rehabilitating their houses
  8. Strengthen the operations of non-profit organizations to develop affordable housing

  • All beneficiaries of housing funds must be low to moderate income. The NAHP does not assist individuals directly.

  • The process for applying for NAHP funds is outlined each year in the Housing and Community Development Annual Action Plan.

  • The applications for NAHP funds are specific to where the project is located or if the proposed project will be targeted to serve persons with special needs.
    Application Guidelines

  • It is strongly recommended that anyone working on a possible NAHP project contact a housing team member to discuss and review before the application due date.

  • There are other resources for housing activities in Nebraska that include loans, grants and assistance to individuals. Many of these resources are outlined in the Affordable Housing Resource Programs Inventory
