Indianola awarded $250,000 in CDBG funds for public works project (November 13, 2006) PDF Print E-mail

LINCOLN, NEB. (November 13, 2006)—Governor Dave Heineman has awarded $250,000 in Community Development Grant (CDBG) funding earmarked for public works projects to the city of Indianola to replace and update components of its wastewater system.

“Federal Community Development Block Grant funding is an essential piece of economic development across America, and in no place is that impact felt as directly as in our small towns and communities,” Gov. Heineman said. “Nebraskans will have access to better services and will, in turn, improve their opportunities to attract new businesses because of the opportunities these grants provide.”

Indianola will use the $250,000 CDBG funding to construct an 18.3 acre complete retention waste stabilization pond, install new force main from the existing lift station, and replace the collection system pipeline from the existing lift station. Indianola also has applied for $1,208,500 in loans from the U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development and the Nebraska Department of Environmental Quality to complete the project.

Nebraska receives an annual allocation of CDBG funds from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. Funding requests for this program are administered by the Nebraska Department of Economic Development (DED) and are available to local governments and counties in Nebraska with populations less than 50,000.

The application and grant process is a partnership of DED, the U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development, the Nebraska Department of Environmental Quality and the Nebraska Health and Human Services System
