January 29 is new deadline for 2007 "New Neighborhoods Initiative" and Nebraska Affordable Housing Program pre-applications
LINCOLN, NEB. (January 9, 2007)—The deadline for pre-applying for funding through the “New Neighborhoods Initiative” and the Nebraska Affordable Housing Program has been extended to January 29, Noon CST, to accommodate communities in central Nebraska impacted by the recent ice storm.

Projects qualifying under the Nebraska Department of Economic Development Director’s “New Neighborhoods Initiative” are mixed income housing, and possibly mixed-use led by local Economic Development Corporations to recruit and retain workforces in four communities experiencing significant employee shortages, including professionals and other skilled workers.

Construction on the four “New Neighborhoods” demonstration projects will begin during summer 2007. The entire selection process will be moved forward one week because of this extension.

Housing activities eligible for the Affordable Housing Program include: Owner-occupied Rehabilitation Program; Non-Profit Operating Assistance; Homebuyer Program; and Distressed Rental Property Assistance
