Question
I’m considering buying a home and I am wondering if you have any down-payment assistance available?
Answer:
The department does not directly assist individuals with down-payment assistance, but we do finance homebuyer programs across the state through local governments, non-profits and public housing agencies. Please email Lara Huskey at This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it  with the subject “homebuyer assistance” and include the community in which you are interested in purchasing a home. You will receive a response from a DED housing specialist on whether there are any available programs in that area.

Question:
I am moving and looking for an apartment or house to rent, do you have anything available?
Answer:
There is a statewide listing of available apartments and houses for rent at http://www.housing.ne.gov. The list is not limited to rental housing that is income-restricted. The list is updated every two weeks and includes advanced search functions such as handicapped accessibility features, rent assistance availability and rent ranges that you will consider. The department does not own and operate rental units.

Question:
Do you have any grants for home improvements?
