Gov. Heineman Announces $900,000 in Funding to Assist Flood Victims PDF Print E-mail

(Lincoln, Neb.) Gov. Dave Heineman today announced that $900,000 in emergency disaster grant funding from the Nebraska Affordable Housing Trust Fund will be distributed to regional organizations to assist residents in counties that were affected by May flooding.

“Residents in more than 30 counties were impacted by storms that dropped large amounts of rain in very little time,” Gov. Heineman said. “This funding is aimed at helping homeowners cover the unexpected costs of clean up and repairs.”

The Nebraska Department of Economic Development will provide funding to five organizations, which will be used to provide grants of up to $7,500 for home repairs. Grants will be awarded to applicants on a first come, first approved basis.

To qualify, homeowners must have experienced flood damage to their home resulting from a May storm, must have had homeowners insurance on the date the storm affected their residence, and have a maximum income at or below 100 percent of the area median income in their county.
