2006

From email, July 9, 2006 :I thought I would drop a line to tell you that we will rap in about a week. This has been a wonderful opportunity for Omaha actors, production crew as well as multiple locations such as UNO, thedowntown Police Department, Omaha World Herald, Petrows, the Tip Topapartments, the Hilton Gardens Hotel,  local clubs and residential dwellingsand much more. Omaha has displayed generosity everywhere we went. Local newsand print also have showed support with flattering things to say. I hope wemay end up listed on your site as we were proud to use our city as our backdrop. From the beginning we wanted to use all things local which makes usproud. Nothing would make me even more proud then to see our project listedon your site. Please check us out at http://www.ulteriormotivesmovie.com/ and seeour stories http://www.omahacityweekly.com/article.php?id=1209 ,http://www.ketv.com/entertainment/9417501/detail.html  andhttp://www.omaha.com/index.php?u_pg=1458&u_sid=2194105&u_rnd=4212621

2006 Combined Production Resource Guide
The Department of Economic Development has recently completed the 2006 Film Office Production Guide. This latest printed version is a combined resource directory with the Omaha Film Commission and the Nebraska Film Office. The directory is used to provide information to media production sources interested in filming on location in Nebraska. Materials contained in the publication include physical facts of the state's topography and geography, crop planting and harvesting, climatic information, permits and contact information for crew personnel, production services and rental equipment.

The guide is prepared mainly for those outside of the state who have little knowledge of our media and film related resources for physical production. The production guide is a standard tool created by film commissions and available from all corners of the world to encourage activity. Nebraska's guide is not only a useful tool, but handsomely designed and laid out by DED's Tim O'Brien. This information is also available in an electronic version on our web site at www.filmnebraska.org. The searchable services data can be downloaded and printed at your convenience.

If you have any questions regarding the production guide or how you might become a part of the growing media industry in Nebraska, contact the Department at: This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it or call 402-471-3680. Film on!

2005 Nebraska Filmmaking

Nebraska has been a hot bed of independent filmmaking activity this year. Omaha has hosted several small independent feature length productions with local production partners and known actors from the "industry." A number of smaller independent films are shooting in Lincoln and all around the state. The democratization of the medium of "filmmaking" allows all of us to express ourselves creatively through the moving image. Although the product selection has increased, the availability to screen your film is not growing as rapidly. If anything, the increased competition of choice prohibits your masterpiece from reaching the viewer even locally.

But don't dispair! Smaller venues are springing up locally. Search out your local independent film supporters in the metropolitan areas. In the smaller cities and hamlets across the state, make yourself known to the local movie house operators. If your local movie theater has stopped showing films, check into the usage of the space, get yourself a DVD projector or use your mini DV camera as the deck and make your own "premiere" happen in your area. This is where you'll find your first swing of support because they know you! Take the easiest route first. If you have bigger plans for your "film," such as a festival premiere or theatrical distribution, be sure and read all the fine print regarding the inclusion of your project for these larger venues. It is not uncommon that a "film" can be previously screened to an audience and/or a fee must not be charged for viewing the picture.

The Nebraska Film Office is part of the Department of Economic Development for the State of Nebraska. It is a very small part of the bigger picture of growing the film industry for our state. While we try our best to provide you with information regarding our resources and filmmaking information throughout our great state, we are not always aware of current projects and activities. If you have any information about your project that you would like us to review and possibly include on this web site, please forward that information to the Department of Economic Development: This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it . We'll do our best to get your information out there to the world.

We strive to keep our searchable data base up to date. If you have a submission, please use the PDF form located here and mail your submission to the Department. We update the web information monthly.

In order to better serve you, the State of Nebraska Film Office and the Omaha Film Commission have combined data bases to create a more comprehensive listing of services and resources to the filmmaking community. Our combined printed production guide will be available in January, 2006. But for the most current information, please see our searchable data base.

ROCKET SCIENCE

Filmed on location in central Nebraska in 2003, Rocket Science is gaining momentum. Now screening at the Los Angeles International Short Film Festival and the Chicago International REEL Shorts film festival.

Best of luck to the creators and crew! About: Fantasy, tragedy, and dark comedy mix with stunning cinematography in a Midwestern tale of 3 Generations, 2 Broken Homes, 1 Mad Obsession.

1950's Nebraska - A deranged German scientist labors to build his dream: a homemade, nuclear-powered rocketship. When complete, it will carry him away from his Nebraska home and the disappointing life he has led. However, as his wife and [eight-year-old] son flee the mad spectacle, Bertoldt's attempt fails miserably. The rocket incinerates upon launch, leaving only a mushroom cloud and worthless farmland as his legacy.

Forty years later - Son Buck is now a high school science teacher with a young son of his own. As Buck wrestles with alcoholism, a Dear John letter, and, soon, the loss of his job, the past comes calling again. Buck and his son return to the family farm, where, in the ruins of Bertoldt's decrepit laboratory, Buck finds the chance to succeed where his father failed......(more)....http://www.rocketsciencefilms.com/

SCOTTSBLUFF HOSTS CAMERON CROWE
Cameron Crowe's most recent film adventure, Elizabethtown has finished filming in western Nebraska. The Scottsbluff/Gering communities hosted star Orlando Bloom and a long day's worth of filming. Crowe and crew were so delighted at the successful day of work, they wished they could have filmed more on-location in Nebraska. Scottsbluff County tourism director, Kevin Howard began working with the project last fall and has been instrumental in coordinating local efforts to provide location and services to the project. Congratulations to Kevin and his "Film Office West" support. And good luck to Cameron Crowe and crew with this exciting project. For more information on this project and others, see http://www.imdb.com/

Scottsbluff hosted a film festival in October 2003 at the newly renovated Midwest Theater. Alexander Payne, editor Michael Hill, screenwriting instructor Lew Hunter and other famous local Nebraskans in the industry participated in panel discussions and promoting film activity in Nebraska. It was well attended by local enthusiasts and is another instrument in continued visibility of growing the film community throughout the state.
