LINCOLN, Neb. (March 24, 2005) Nebraska received top ranking as the most economical destination for travel within the United States, according to AAA's annual vacation costs survey released today. Statistics from across the nation were compiled to determine the average cost of lodging and food that travelers would incur.
During a vacation in Nebraska, an average family of four would spend $184 a day for food and lodging. The national average is $247 per day. The most expensive state for vacationers remains Hawaii at $518 per day followed by the District of Columbia, $441; Rhode Island, $307; New York, $307; and Massachusetts, $303.
"We are excited to be the most economical travel destination for people in the United States," said Dan Curran, director of the Nebraska Department of Economic Development?s Division of Travel and Tourism. "The financial value of a vacation in Nebraska allows travelers to extend their stays, enjoy more attractions and explore all the state has to offer."
