LINCOLN, NEB. (September 29, 2005)—The September 20 meeting of the Nebraska Economic Development Commission in Nebraska City turned into a reunion celebration as former commissioners A.F. “Tony” Raimondo of Columbus, and Bill Harris of Lincoln were recognized for their many outstanding contributions to the state’s economy during a combined 24 years of service on the Commission. Both were appointed in 1992 and served through 2004.
Raimondo not only served as a member, but chaired the Commission throughout his 12 years of service. During this time, he also chaired the Nebraska Industrial Competitiveness Alliance, a collaboration of government, academia, and private business, and the Nebraska Department of Labor Worker Training Board, positions he still holds today. Raimondo is chairman and CEO of Behlen Mfg. Co., a metal fabricator of livestock equipment, metal buildings and grain bins.
Harris, who grew up in McCook, served in the Nebraska State Legislature from 1983-1987, representing the 27th District, and as mayor of Lincoln from 1987-1991. He maintains ranching and farming interests in Nebraska and Alabama, as well as oil interests in southwest Nebraska.
