LINCOLN, NEB. (October 17, 2005)—Governor Dave Heineman will present three outstanding Nebraska businesses with Edgerton Quality Awards, Friday, Oct. 28, Noon, at The Cornhusker Hotel in Lincoln. Named for the late Harold “Doc” Edgerton, Aurora, Neb. native, Massachusetts Institute of Technology professor, and noted photographer, inventor and entrepreneur, the Edgerton Award is patterned after the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award.

The day of celebrating top-notch businesses will get underway at 9 a.m. with speaker Hank Orme, president of Lincoln Plating, talking about steps his company took to earn the 2004 Edgerton Award for Excellence.

At 11 a.m., Pam Moore, manager of quality improvement with Shawnee Mission Medical Center will share her employer’s quality journey to earn the 2005 Kansas Award for Excellence

Following lunch at 1:30 p.m., Dr. Tim Jares, associate dean of the Monfort College of Business at the University of Northern Colorado, in Greeley, Colo., will present “Management by Fact: Developing and Implementing a System of Performance Excellence.” Monfort College of Business received the 2004 Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award in the Education category.

Edgerton Awards are presented to eligible businesses, and health care, education, and nonprofit organizations. Hosted by the Nebraska Section of the American Society for Quality (ASQ) and the Nebraska Diplomats, the day’s events are designed to educate and inspire use of criteria for performance excellence in leadership, strategic planning, human resources, customer and market services, measurement, analysis, and knowledge management.
