LINCOLN, NEB. (November 16, 2005)—Twyla Witt has been hired as a Nebraska Tourism Regional Representative. A native Nebraskan who was raised on a Cherry County ranch, she also will serve as the Nebraska Byways Coordinator.

Her new job duties will include developing and promoting the tourism industry along Nebraska’s designated scenic and historic byways; surveying existing and potential tourism attractions, events and activities along the byways; analyzing available resources for byway development; and providing community and byway organization leaders with technical assistance on marketing, leadership and organizational development.

Additional duties will include serving as liaison between the Nebraska Department of Economic Development, community leaders, regional tourism organizations and businesses to deliver and implement the department’s tourism programs; helping implement the Nebraska Travel Industry Development Plan and TARGET (Tourism Assessment Resource Growth Evaluation Team) program; and attending state, regional and national travel or trade shows.

Witt has been an administrative assistant with the Nebraska Department of Economic Development’s Travel and Tourism Division since 1996, and brings 26 years of tourism experience to her new position. She has been involved in the lodging industry in three states and served on the Board of Directors of the Nebraska Hotel & Motel Association. Previously, she managed a travel agency, developed and guided group tours, and worked as account representative for Nebraska Logos.

Her new duties will begin in December and she will be based in Thedford, Nebraska.
