Applications accepted January 11-25 for funding
Eligible local governments are encouraged to take advantage of the opportunity to apply for a second round of approximately $1 million in Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds to be awarded in the public works category. The Nebraska Department of Economic Development will only accept applications from January 11-25, 2008, based on the U.S. Postal Service postmark, or official date of receipt via other means of delivery.
The State of Nebraska receives yearly CDBG grant funding from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) for projects benefiting low- and moderate-income residents. In 2007, DED received approximately $12 million in CDBG funding of which approximately $3 million was earmarked for eligible public works projects. Following that first round of applications and awards, approximately $1 million remained.
To be eligible for funding, projects must benefit at least 51% of the low- and moderate-income households in the target area, prevent or eliminate slums or blight, and be completed within 24 months of the award. Eligible local governments may apply individually or jointly. Application guidelines are available on DED’s website at: http://www.neded.org/content/view/107/239/
