$404,000 CDBG awarded to South Sioux City for business expansion (December 20, 2007) PDF Print E-mail

LINCOLN, NEB. (December 20, 2007)—Governor Dave Heineman has awarded South Sioux City with $404,000 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funding to relocate a gas pipeline as part of a larger expansion project being undertaken by Beef Products, Inc. (BPI). The company is building a $20 million facility to house its new processing division. The project will create 19 new full-time positions.

South Sioux City will loan the business $400,000 to relocate the pipeline away from the land on which it plans to build the facility. The remaining $4,000 will be available to the city for administrative costs.

BPI was started in 1982 by Eldon and Regina Roth. The company oversees six facilities in Kansas, Nebraska, Texas and Iowa, and more than 900 employees.

Federal funds are made available to Nebraska from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, and are administered by the Nebraska Department of Economic Development.
