LINCOLN, NEB. (August 28, 2008)—Applications are being accepted through October 3 for the next round of Value-Added Agriculture (VAA) grants.
The VAA program, which is funded through the Nebraska Department of Economic Development and administered by the Rural Development Commission, encourages development of the state’s agricultural innovation and value-added agriculture industries.
Eligible projects involve collaborative partnerships that benefit Nebraska ranchers or farmers. For specific eligibility and activity requirements, or to access an application form and online training, visit www.ruralnebraska.info.
New this year is a provision requiring any building or machinery purchased with VAA funds to remain in the possession of the grant recipient for a minimum three years unless the Nebraska Department of Economic Development approves otherwise in writing.
Match requirements also have been increased on buildings and machinery from 25 percent to 50 percent. One-half of this 50 percent match must be cash. All other project activities continue to require a 25 percent in-kind or cash match. Applicants providing cash matches may receive preference.
