LINCOLN, NEB. (September 18, 2008)—The Nebraska Department of Economic Development has awarded $250,000 in HOME funding to Wayne Community Housing Development Corporation. The funding was earmarked for Community Housing Development Organizations and set aside as part of the 2007 Nebraska Affordable Housing Program.
The Corporation will build two new homes in the city’s Western Ridge subdivision, and sell them to families whose household incomes are at or below 80 percent of the Area Median Income level in Wayne County.
Selected families will receive $20,000 down payment assistance provided by the City of Wayne. Each home’s total purchase price will not exceed $120,000.The families also will be required to take part in Homebuyer Education workshops.
Wayne Community Housing Development Corporation recently completed a new home for an individual with special needs and purchased an infill lot from the city to build another new home. To date, the Corporation has built 12 homes from 2004 and 2005 grant awards. Three additional homes were recently rehabilitated and another home has been inspected, and all will be sold to low-income families.
In addition to the City of Wayne, other home development partners include area lenders, real estate companies and contractors, Homestead Homes, and other housing agencies.
