(Lincoln, Neb.) Gov. Dave Heineman announced that York will receive $334,000 in Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funding to help Great West-Teeuwissen purchase York Cold Storage Company. The transaction will allow the facility to remain in operation under a new name and retain 40 full-time positions.
"We salute Great West-Teeuwissen, LLC for its commitment to maintaining the overall operations and workforce that made York Cold Storage Company the long-standing company it was, while still maintaining the intent of the original business," said Gov. Heineman. "These 40 jobs will go a long way toward establishing an immediate base of confidence between York residents and the company."
York will loan $500,000 to the company, of which $329,000 is new CDBG funding and $171,000 is from the city's CDBG program income. The remaining $5,000 will be available to York for administrative-related costs. Total investment in the project is $4,005,000.
Great West, Inc., started operations in 1980 as a wholesaler and distributor of meat and other food products. Great West, Inc. and Teeuwissen USA formed Great West-Teeuwissen, LLC, in May 2008. York Cold Storage Company was established in 1946 as a bonded warehouse and storage facility. Upon its reopening, the company will be known as York Cold Storage, LLC.
Federal funds are made available to Nebraska from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development's CDBG program, which assists businesses and communities throughout the state.
