LINCOLN, NEB. (December 18, 2008)-The Nebraska Department of Economic Development (DED) has awarded $200,000 in Nebraska Affordable Housing Program funding to the Housing Development Corporation (HDC) in Hastings to rehabilitate at least seven homes in its coverage area.
The money will go toward HDC's Regional Owner Occupied Housing Rehabilitation Program, helping eligible owner-occupants rehabilitate homes in Adams, Clay, Hall Nuckolls and Webster counties. Requirements include: Properties must be single family, owner-occupied units that do not meet DED's minimum rehabilitation standards, and owners must earn incomes at or below 80 percent of the area median income. Other restrictions may apply.
Selected properties will receive services that address code deficiencies, minimum rehabilitation standards, emerging deficiencies, energy conservation, fire protection and after all other needs are addressed, general improvements.
HDC's program also is using U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development funding in areas of Grand Island and Hastings, and $7,340 in leveraged funding through the City of Hastings Community Development Block Grant Program Income to complete the project.
