LINCOLN, NEB. (December 18, 2008)-The Nebraska Department of Economic Development (DED) has awarded $250,000 in Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funding to Gresham to build a new control system and up to 300-feet-deep municipal well to supplement its existing well.
The village's current water system is comprised of one 250-feet-deep municipal supply well. Its second well was recently decommissioned due to high nitrite levels. The water system also features an elevated 50,000-gallon water storage facility providing storage capacity equal to the village's average daily water use.
Additional funding of $179,000 from the Nebraska Departments of Environmental Quality and Health and Human Services' Drinking Water State Revolving Fund will complete the project.
Federal funds are made available to DED from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development's CDBG program to assist with the development of businesses and communities throughout the state. Funding requests for this program are administered by DED and are available to local governments and counties in Nebraska with populations less than 50,000.
