LINCOLN, NEB. (June 25, 2009)—The Nebraska Department of
Economic Development has awarded $20,000 in Nebraska Affordable Housing Program
funding to Community Action Partnership of Western Nebraska to renovate the
Wheatridge Court Apartment complex in Hemingford built in the 1970s.
Additional funding totaling $128,700 from the U.S.
Department of Housing 202/811 program and Section 515 Rural Rental Housing Loan
Program from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Rural Development will
complete the project.
The funding will be used to renovate and upgrade ten
665-sq.-ft. two-bedroom, single-bath apartments, and six 566-sq.-ft.
one-bedroom, single-bath apartments. The apartments will receive new carpeting
and flooring, countertops, sinks and vanities. Water heaters will be replaced,
and new exhaust fans and lighting fixtures will be installed. Windows and
doors will be replaced. Fire detection, and new heating and air conditioning
systems will be installed.
Exterior work will include new lighting, signage,
playground equipment with fencing, enclosure of the trash pickup area, and
concrete work involving street, parking lot and walkway improvements, and
installation of a curb ramp.
