LINCOLN, NEB. (June 30, 2009)—The Nebraska Department of
Health and Human Services (HHS) and Nebraska Department of Economic Development
(DED) are teaming to provide the HHS Continuum of Care Annual Meeting and DED Housing
Training, August 26 and 27 in North Platte.
Featured speaker on Wednesday morning is Michael German,
national team leader with the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban
Development’s United States Interagency Council on Homelessness. He is chief
proponent of the Council’s nationwide push to rethink how to combat
homelessness. Fueled by his energy, the U.S. Interagency Council has signed up
more than 850 partners and created, or are in the process of creating, more
than 43,000 units of affordable housing. As a result of his efforts, German was
a 2009 finalist for the Citizen Services Medal that recognizes a federal
employee for a significant national contribution related to social services.
Humorist Juli Burney will serve as Wednesday’s luncheon
keynote speaker.
The Continuum of Care portion will feature workshops on
topics ranging from RentWise, Foster Care & Homelessness, Permanent
Supportive Housing and more. DED also will conduct workshops on components of
the Nebraska Affordable Housing Program, including conducting environmental
reviews, reporting and monitoring, technical writing assistance, and more.
A networking session will follow Wednesday’s workshops.
Cost for the two days is $50 per person. To register, go
to DED’s website at: http://www.neded.org/content/view/117/243/.
