JULY 20, 2012 (LINCOLN, NEB.)—InternNE funding is still available for companies wanting to hire interns and participate in the program, administered by the Nebraska Department of Economic Development (DED).  

“The first-year response has been encouraging, and we look forward to helping additional businesses find the interns needed to meet their skill demands,” said Catherine D. Lang, DED Director. “This program offers a good balance of assisting employers to find future employees, while offering students the skills needed to enter the workforce.”

JULY 11, 2012 (LINCOLN, NEB.)—The Nebraska Department of Economic Development (DED) has awarded $319,164 HOME funding to Southeast Nebraska Affordable Housing Council, Inc., (SENAHC), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit based in Lincoln, Neb., to undertake a Owner-Occupied Rehabilitation (OOR) Program.

JULY 16, 2012 (LINCOLN, NEB.)— Imperial has become the 35th community to earn the designation of Nebraska Economic Development Certified Community.  

Becoming an Economic Development Certified Community has been a key goal for Imperial’s development program, said Russ Pankonin, Community Redevelopment Chair and Economic Development Team Member.  

“This elevates Imperial to a new standard that will be beneficial to our growth in years to come,” Pankonin said.

(Lincoln, Neb.) Gov. Dave Heineman today outlined the results of a year-long effort focused on economic growth and job creation. This past year, Gov. Heineman served as Chair of the National Governors Association, working with Governors from the United States’ 55 states, territories and commonwealths to study, discuss and develop best practices that help foster entrepreneurship and innovation.  

“The economy and jobs are the most important issues facing Americans today,” Gov. Heineman said. “As Governors, we owe it to our citizens to focus on policies and practices that allow small businesses to grow and individuals to thrive. By identifying 12 basic actions to help businesses grow, Governors will be able to implement these ideas and help our state economies grow.”

Entrepreneurship Acceleration Program By Governor Dave Heineman PDF Print E-mail

Dear Fellow Nebraskans:

In March of 2011, I announced a new partnership to help strengthen Nebraska small businesses and startup enterprises through mentorship. Joining me in this effort was the Nebraska Department of Economic Development, the University of Nebraska – Lincoln Institute of Agriculture and Natural Resources, the Greater Omaha Chamber of Commerce, and the Gallup Organization.

This highly targeted, strategic intervention for entrepreneurs is helping create a new generation of homegrown business success stories in Nebraska. The initiative combines business-to-business guides and a consulting program called the Entrepreneur Acceleration System created by The Gallup Organization to help early-stage entrepreneurs and established firms grow their enterprises.
